Our partners
We’re proud to be working alongside three leading African universities, the Association of African Universities and the Mastercard Foundation.
All partners bring their own unique expertise and are approaching the Collaborative’s four pillars in distinct but complementary ways:
Through its Graduate School of Climate and the Climate Research and Innovation Hub, UCT is developing future climate leaders, strengthening interdisciplinary research, and enabling African-led ideas and solutions to shape a more climate-resilient and sustainable future.
Advancing climate solutions, strengthening communities, and driving green growth.
UG priorities include nurturing climate researchers through 200 master’s, 30 doctoral, and 10 postdoctoral fellowships, and creating Climate Resilience Labs integrating indigenous knowledge.
Empowering young people, especially women, to lead Africa to climate resilience and climate-positive growth.
Makerere priorities include empowering future climate leaders through postgraduate education and leadership training, and connecting academia, industry and policymakers.
Association of African Universities (AAU)
The AAU is the leading advocate for higher education in Africa, with over 360 members from 46 countries.
It acts as the Collaborative’s backbone organisation and secretariat, responsible for coordinating the partners’ activities and ensuring alignment.
Through initiatives including the Africa Climate Collaborative, the Mastercard Foundation is enabling 30 million young people to access meaningful, dignified work by 2030, with a focus on young women, refugees, displaced people and people with disabilities.
